GM does have failure of the electrical portion of the ignition switch, I would have said replace it right away if it wasn't for you mentioning seeing a spark. Was the spark from jumper cables? Lexus . How to Wire the Distributor on a 1967 International ScoutThe 1967 International Scout has a points-type distributor. The ignition points are a set of spring loaded arms with contact patches on the tips. The inside arm is fixed while the outside arm rides on eccentrics around the circumference of the distributor shaft. Eccentrics are simply a series of high and low spots on the shaft. As a high spot passes under the outer point arm it raises the arm, opening the points. As the high spot passes and the outer arm descends to the low part of the arm, the points close, making a closed circuit that acts like a ground for the coil. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Set of wrenches Wire crimper Blue size circular post connector (circular with a hole in the middle) Small electrical wrenches Step by Step : 1 Remove the air cleaner to help access the distributor and coil. The air cleaner should have a wing nut that can be removed by hand. If not, use a wrench to remove it. 2 Connect the points wire to the coil by cutting 1/4 inch of insulation off the end of the only wire coming out of the distributor. Install the circular post connector on the bare end of the wire. Crimp the end of the terminal connector so it is tight on the wire and makes a good contact. 3 Remove the small nut on the negative terminal on the coil using a small electrical wrench. Place the distributor wire with the circular post connector on the negative post of the coil. Install the nut and tighten securely. Reinstall the air cleaner. Tips & Warnings The coil has constant power when the ignition key is on. The negative side of the coil is wired to the distributor points. The coil is charged when the points are open. When the points close they create a ground from the negative terminal on the coil through the points to ground. This collapses the field in the coil, causing it to discharge its current through its secondary terminal through the coil wire to the distributor firing the spark plugs.
